Google Assistant and Discovery (with Workspace)

  • We need to turn on Google Assistant in admin console for Discovery feature to work.
  • Discovery feature is merged with Google Assistant now and hence it comes under Google Assistant.
  • To turn on Google Assistant:-
  • Login to Admin console
  • Devices
  • Mobile & end points
  • Settings
  • Universal settings
  • Data access
  • Google Assistant “Enable Google Assistant Checkbox”
  • Save (Bottom right corner)

Setting up an “App password”:-

  • Login to your account https://myaccount.google.com/
  • Go to Security and scroll down to “Signing in to Google”
  • Turn on 2-Step Verification
  • Then set up an “App password” for use with your “Less secure app”.
  • Note: If main password is changed, a new App password needs to be created.

Gmail settings:-

  • IMAP server name = imap.gmail.com   Port 993
  • Username = name@fisher.net.nz
  • Security = SSL/TLS Authentication = OAuth2  (For Thunderbird you will probably have to use the “App password”)
  • Outgoing server = smtp.gmail.com Port 465
